Setting for a fixed FOV for solving

#1

Post by han59 »

I got a help request from a SharpCap user with field of view of 0.2 degrees. The problem is that ASTAP searches between a FOV 10 degrees and 0.4 degrees. It would help if the users can select in SharpCap between auto FOV and a fixed value.

See
https://sourceforge.net/p/astap-program ... /?limit=25

Hi Han,

good to hear from you - hope you had a good Christmas and New Year!

You can do this in SharpCap 4 by setting the focal length of your telescope in the SharpCap settings - see https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/4.0/#Plate%20Solving%20Tab

Almost all popular cameras also allow SharpCap to find the pixel size, which can be combined with the focal length and resolution to work out the field of view. If SharpCap has all of the info needed (pixel size, focal length, resolution), then the field of view should be passed to the plate solving application. SharpCap should add the -fov 0.2 parameter to the command line in the above case if the focal length is set correctly.

cheers,

Robin
