ZWO ASI482MC

Before I purchase the ZWO ASI482MC I wanted to be sure that SharpCap would support it.

Hi,

I haven't used the camera myself, but versions of SharpCap 4 since about the end of September include versions of the ZWO SDK that should support this model. I have also seen reports of others using this camera with SharpCap, and not heard of any problems with it.

cheers,

Robin

Hi,
ASI482MC in SHARPCAP gives different images than in ASISTUDIO.
The same exposure and gain. SHARPCAP image has no contrast and the noise is different.
Max. gain cannot be used. The image turns white.
cheers,
Tomas

Hi,

have you adjusted any other controls in SharpCap - for instance white balance/brightness or the display histogram stretch? Next to the saved SharpCap image there will be a capturesettings.txt file that contains all the camera settings that might reveal something.

cheers,

Hi Tomas,

according to that file, the SharpCap capture was done in RGB24, not RAW mode. Now, I don't see how that could cause the white effect, but that is a difference. Also the file name is a bit weired - the 'Stack_XX_frames' is usually used for naming files saved from live stacking, so I was wondering how you saved the SharpCap image? Were you using live stacking?

cheers,

Hi, Robin
I am sending copies of the screens (sodium lamps).
It seems to me that the image is processed by a noise reduction algorithm.

Thomas

I've just received my 482MC and can confirm that it's very sensitive with the gain. Using it over 50% gives washed out effects and real high gain gives a white image. But with testing it gives good results in the Gain 80 which is the point where the HCG mode turns on. I got good captures with it.
Didn't test it with ASI Studio, so not sure why there is this difference.

Thomas: can you see any difference when you set the Debayer Preview to On instead of Forced RGGB? I always have that to On.

Hi, Menno
I don't see the difference in Debayer Force RGGB / ON.
The ASI482MC is a great camera. Sensitive with high dynamics.
Probably the best color camera today. He can intensify the color on the Moon.
Captured by Dobson 254/1200 using SharpCap ROI image stabilization.

Aha...

there is a new version of the ZWO SDK available that I hadn't spotted - the change log shows

Code: Select all

V1.21 2022.1.17
(1) Add new cameras
(2) Some optimizations have been made
No particular reference to the 482, but you never know...ASI studio has the new version, SharpCap is still using the previous one.

I will update and then the new version of SharpCap on Monday may help.

cheers,

Robin
