The IAU kicked off a new center for the protection of the dark sky from satellite constellation interference. One of their areas of work is "Work together in partnership to coordinate the development of “smart” scheduling and/or detector operation software as well as specific artifact removal algorithms and distribute them."

Robin - sent you a separate note but interested to know if SharpCap will be part of that activity also? Could we possibly see some new algorithms to remove satellite artifacts from images in future?

My apologies if this is a crystal ball looking question :-)

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

thanks for the heads up on that IAU plan. It's not something that I am involved with, but I think it is generally something that the whole astro community is going to have to do more about in the future.

My current idea is to have a processing option in SharpCap to remove satellite streaks - something a bit like the way that image processing software can remove scratches from old photographs.

cheers,

Robin
