Possible bug in Sensor Analysis for STF8300

Hi Robin,
I may have found a bug in the Sensor Analysis tool. Cedric_r wrote an ASCOM driver for the old SBIG cameras like my STF8300. See https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/7364 ... ras/page-5
and
https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/7364 ... ras/page-5

I tested his ASCOM driver with Sharpcap and everything seems to work, well, except for the Sensor Analysis which seems to not update once it got to "Sensor Gain measurments":

SC just sat there taking photos and nothing happened for quite a while and so I terminated the program. I think there's a bug because the STF8300 doesn't have any gain settings.

Do you think this is a bug in SC?

Hi,

at that stage SharpCap is expecting the image to brighten because you have uncovered the sensor and light should be detected.

In order to proceed, SharpCap needs to find an image that has an average brightness of above about 50%. It will try to use exposures of up to 1.5s to achieve this brightness level, but it seems that in your case that length of exposure may not be sufficient. The easiest thing to do to get past this point is to try pointing the camera at a brighter source of illumination. Alternatively you could try setting the exposure manually to a longer value of 3-4s while at this stage, which should also work.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin,
You're absolutely right, it's user error. I redid the sensor test again and this time I increased the illumination above 50% and the test continued to the end.

I've marked the subject as solved.

Thanks!

I need to do a sensor analysis on my STF-8300M. Where did you guys get the ASCOM driver? I looked everywhere and I can't find it....any help will be appreciated (can I do the sensor analysis using a flat plate light?)
Thanks!

Hi,

SBIG decided not to make one for older cameras, but fortunately someone else did - https://github.com/cedric-r/ASCOM.HomeMade.SBIGCamera

Note that I have never tested this personally as I have no SBIG cameras, I just happened to remember its existed :)

cheers,

Robin
