Hi folks,
I seem to recall from another thread that there was a bad update to CPWI and people were going back to the previous version to get things working. Not sure that it related specifically to this, but it might be worth checking out the possibility.

Thank you. I did not see the other thread, but reverting back to CPWI 2.3.5 got mount slew control rates back to as expected.

further to my last post, I'm now using CPWI successfully - 2.4.3-beta5 - which is available from the Team Celestron web site (registration required, but FoC)
