Stop Capture and Color

Stop Capture: Stop Capture is grayed out in the tool bar and I cannot stop a capture.
Color: I have saved the image as a TIFF file. The image is displayed in color. When I open it in Photoshop is is gray scale. How do I save it so it is in color? Thanks. Dennis
