Thanks for the info! I'm glad that at least this time you were able to see the video and therefore more likely diagnose the problem, although for sure it's a bit concerning. It's also just strange to me as this is a brand new ASI385 (obviously from ZWO, a reputable manufacturer, I think) with its accompanying USB cable, so I wouldn't think USB transfer would be an issue. It's not like I'm trying to cut corners on materials or anything.

I'm glad you brought up the turbo speed, as it is something I have considered. There MIGHT be a correlation between the two issues -- I'm not sure yet. Certainly something I should observe more closely.

By the way, all of this said, I guess I don't even know for sure is if this issue even has an impact on the final image I create. Like many people, what I do after capturing the video is run it through AutoStakkert, and, sure enough, a lot of the quality graphs in that program my videos produce look terrible (everything well below the center line). But, again, I don't know if that has anything to do with the bouncing object/USB transfer issue. Although if you say I'm losing frames, THAT probably does, yes.

Hi,

basically, a lot of these Astro cameras have been designed to push the USB system to its limits – this is partly to get the best out of the cameras in terms of frame rate and partly because of a feature between the manufacturers (our camera does 150 frames per second, yours only manages 145...). The result of this is that the cameras sometimes seem to get on badly with particular computers. You can plug the same camera into two different laptops and on one it will work flawlessly and on another it will glitch and cause problems.

Usually adjusting things like the TurboUSB control downwards to reduce the pressure on the USB system will help resolve or at least reduce the problem.

Cheers, Robin

Okay, so it sounds like my best, first course of action here would be to simply reduce the turbo control, which, yes, right now is set to full speed. Perhaps that one little adjustment will have a significant positive impact. Will let you know definitively when I get to go out again. No "clear skies," as they say, around here for a little while unfortunately! Thanks again.
