Dropped frames

I love it when I check back on SharpCap doing my dark subs and having dropped at least half the frames for no apparent reason and is still capturing...

Warning: 18:55:49.9429481 Thread:ASI Grab Thread#38 SharpCap.Cameras.ASI.ASICameraProxy.GetFrameData(Int32 timeout, BufferFrame frame) :: Fetching still frame from ZWO camera failed with ExpFailed, exposure is 300000, timeout is 330000
Info: 18:55:49.9436944 Thread:ASI Grab Thread#38 SharpCap.Base.DroppedFrameLogger.Count(DroppedFrameType type, Int32 count) :: Dropped frames : 2 of type ZWOTimeout

No one is even getting near the camera during that time, so what's going on? Why, if I use SGP instead, I actually get the full number of frames?

Hi,

SGP is pretty much a pure deep sky imaging application, so it most likely runs the camera at the most conservative settings to get the highest reliability. SharpCap also supports high-speed planetary/lunar/solar imaging, so you will find a that allows you to adjust the USB speed of your camera between maximum performance which is optimal for high-speed imaging and lower performance which tends to give higher reliability. Having this control set a bit high is a common cause of drop frames. I would suggest trying to turn this value down and also checking out the other hints in the troubleshooting USB issues page linked to at the top of this forum page.

Hope this helps, Robin
