Re: Goto catalog : mount stay black in step waiting to settle
Hi Olivier,
OK, so if the mount decided to 'give up' slewing because of some internal load/speed limit then that would make sense - it can't report an error to SharpCap because the slew *started* successfully, so it will just stop slewing somewhere in the middle of the path that would take it to the destination. I did add code to check the final co-ordinates of sequencer GOTO movements in version 4.1.12741 - it will fail if the final position is more than 1 degree away from the target and show a warning notification if it's between 0.1 and 1 degrees from the target. That means it should at least flag up in the software that things have not gone according to plan in future.
@Don,
since you have a different mount, it's not going to be the same issue as Olivier is seeing - if you can catch either issue happening please post a log and I will investigate.
cheers,
Robin

Thank you I will test that this week end if the sky is clear enough.
Kind regards

If it makes and diefference or helps. My iOptron HAE69 harmonic mount hangs at that poiint sometimes also.
Running this way for the last 3 versions. Does it about every 5 or 6th object I move to. I do EAA so I do move to a lot of objects in 3 or 4 hours.

Re: Goto catalog : mount stay black in step waiting to settle
Hi,
in the next update I have some changes that will raise an error if the mount fails to arrive close to the target location, which should help catch that problem if it is happening. The freeze at that point would seem to indicate that the mount keeps reporting that it is slewing (SharpCap waits up to 5 seconds for the mount to start slewing, then it waits for it to stop slewing, up to a limit of 120s). If the mount continues to report that it is slewing (or somehow communication is lost with the mount, so the status cannot be updated and gest stuck at slewing) then it should eventually timeout after 2 minutes with an error 'Failed to complete goto within 120s' or similat. Worth keeping an eye out for that one, as it would indicate what is going wrong behind the scenes.
cheers,
Robin

Re: Goto catalog : mount stay black in step waiting to settle
Hello Robin,
I have still that issue with my mount that is driven by onestep (ascom)
.
hen I goto a target 1st time it is ok. when I change of target after several minutes of capture, one time on 2 the mount does not move. It freeze in the aiting mount to settle status. I have to stop the goto. Then when I restart it work most of the time but sometimes I have to insist several time before it goes. In many case I need to close the goto windows and reopen. Then the goto works but at the end the windows does not close automatically.
I don't know why it is freezing in waiting for mount to settle. I have no error message ... is such situtation the mount has not moved after goto command issued.
when it is freezing the log indicate : 04:20:39 Info : 'Requesting guiding pause from PHD2' while running step Move the mount to (RA,Dec) RA=12:40:00.
please advise
Olivier

Re: Goto catalog : mount stay black in step waiting to settle
Hi,
could you send me the full log please, along with some indication of the times when the problem occurred so that I know which parts to concentrate on. Hopefully the log details will reveal more now that SharpCap pays more attention to this sort of problem possibly happening.
thanks,
Robin

ok, next time I will have that issue I will save the log for you. Just to mention I also had it using my AM5N this week. So it seems it is not only related with onestep mount.
It generally occurs after I did a long session on 1 target. Then when I change the target , the 1st goto does nothing remaining stuck until I stop, then restart it. Maybe a issue of delay somewhere.

Re: Goto catalog : mount stay black in step waiting to settle
Hi Olivier,
was there nothing else in the log past that point? Where it cuts off there, it looks like it is just getting ready to start the movement, and - if the last line shown really has nothing more after it - it might indicate that SharpCap gets stuck waiting for a respond from PHD2 when trying to pause guiding...
cheers,
Robin
