So I have 3.2 Pro all the latest drivers when I hook up this camera and try to connect Sharpcap becomes unresponsive the preview screen is black the camera control panel is blank if I then pull the usb cable the control panel instantly fills with info and at the bottom of the sceen it says x frames collected so many dropped and the other info normally there but the program does not like this camera with lodestar 2 works great. With starlights acquisition software the camera works fine so don't think its the camera or cables please help.Oh yeah win 10 home version HP laptop all updated drivers. Aslo does this if I try ascom drivers.

Hi,

Thanks for posting the log which helps me understand a little bit about what might be going on here. I can only see one possibility that might cause the UI to lock up when using a camera like this and I have tried to write a fix that might help. Unfortunately the issue is related to checking the temperature of the camera and also the fact that for high resolution CCD cameras the readout time is quite long. I only have a low resolution lodestar SX camera which is not cooled, so I can't test the fix myself. I will upload a new build with the potential fixing in the next day or 2 and I would be grateful if you could test again. Please can you also turn on the option for verbose logging which you'll find at the bottom of the general page of the SharpCap settings. This will include extra information in the log which just helps me keep track of where the programme got to during testing.

Thanks, Robin

Absolutely thank you so much for your help. I take it I just need to keep an eye out for a new version?

Hi,

Please try this build – https://d.sharpcap.co.uk/download.html? ... 3.2.5967.0

If it still seems to be unresponsive after opening the camera then please allow the application at least a minute to see if either it starts responding or if it prompts you to send a bug report about it being unresponsive. The bug report option be ideal because it would let me see just where the application is stuck. In any event please turn on the extra logging before testing so that I get as much information as possible.

Cheers, Robin

ok this is weird I posted the latest log but its not here? And since I rebooted the computer its gone. So I tried the new build and Sharpcap appeared to be working , no lockups , the camera said it was previewing but all I got was a white screen no matter where I set the exposure time. Also the temp readings on the bottom bar was fluctuating greatly like it was a random number generator. So I will have to retry next weekend to generate a log, but definitely much improved thank you for all your work Robin. If there are any procedures you would like me to follow or tests to try let me know.

Hi,

My usual test to see very quickly if a camera is responding correctly is just to check that I can get it to give me a black image when the camera is completely covered and no light is getting in and a white or grey image when I uncover the sensor. 2nd test is that the exposure control does something – i.e. increasing it makes the image brighter (unless it's already pure white) and decreasing makes the image dimmer. Usually of those to work then you are in a pretty good situation.

Aside from that, just capture a log file to upload with any reports of problems that you have.

Cheers, Robin

Ok so my testing was done during the day so I wouldnt be fumbling around in the dark. With the cap on the scope the window was indeed black but with the cap off it was white no matter what I set the exposure to? Perhaps just too bright outside for even the minimum exposure possible?

For daytime testing with my Atik 314E I use either an IR685, red #25 or Ha filter to reduce the light.

Correct. I do all my daytime equipment and learning testing using filters. That way the good nights don't get wasted on equipment issues.
