I have vista sp2 running on a laptop. I've installed Microsoft .net framework 4.5 and have tried to install Sharpcap v 2.9.036.0 & v3.0.4079.0, but for each attempt I get error 0x80070002 System cannot find the file.
I've looked in the temp directory and emptied it and rerun the installations, but with the same result.
I've got Sharpcap 3.1 running on a desktop win7 machine -
so what am I doing wrong with the Vista machine?

it may be worth checking that your Windows Vista install is up-to-date although the last time I tried to bring a Windows Vista install up-to-date it spent 2 1/2 days thinking about it telling me it was working out what updates to install before I got bored and switch the machine off again.
If you clear out the temp directory again and then try the installed you should find that there will be at least one possibly more than one log file left in the temporary directory that give information about how far the install got and hopefully what went wrong. If you can find those log files and post them here we might have a better idea of working out what the problem is.

If you are using the Vista machine for only image capture with a fixed and stable camera, that is ok, the camera will carry on working. You would be locked in to that hardware/software configuration - with no capability to take on later versions of SharpCap or a more modern cameras (think drivers). If you are using the Vista machine for general purpose computing and internet access, then that needs to be reconsidered - Windows Vista has reached end of life April 2017. That means no security updates, no Microsoft Essentials updates, anti-virus vendors will start to view the operating system as uneconomical to develop/support their products.
