Remy

Celestron C8 meets Atik 314E for the first time. Plenty to work on here, probably needs the f6.3 reducer. I used SharpCap 3.2.5781.0 and managed to get stacking working. The parameters I had to adjust are highlighted (see Robin's note as well). Not an APOD but was busy wrestling with Ha imaging settings on my main rig.

Hi Robin,

Bingo!
I have used sharpcap 3.2 to imagine M57 to night and it works, alignments were found and I could stack the frames.
Please see attached the results.

I have just a question: why does the saved as seen image still show the detected stars boxes?

Thank you again for your help.
Cheers
Remy

Hi Remy,

good to hear that it works now. The saving of star boxes is either a little bug. The button is labelled 'save exactly as seen', so I could almost argue that it is by design, but of course no-one really wants star boxes on their saved images...

That type of save is handled just before the image gets displayed to ensure it matches the image as seen on screen, by which point things like the boxes have already been drawn on top of the image. I will log it as a bug, but since there is an easy workaround it won't be a priority to fix for now.

thanks,

Robin

Hi Robin,

I used sharpcap 3.2 this morning to imagine M42 and it worked well also.
I only need to improve focussing now!

See picture.

Cheers.

Remy

Buy a Bahtinov Mask and then do this viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1151.

Pinpoint focusing in seconds. Best £20 investment you will ever make in this money pit of a hobby.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your advice . I think that I'll buy a bahtinov mask asap.

I have retried M27 using Sharpcap focusing tool last night.
As you can see below, I got better results than with previous M42, because I think I had mist on my camera window pane that former night.

Sharcap app is working very well!

Cheers.

Hello,
Apologies to tag onto this thread but I believe I have a similar problem
I am using an atik 414ex colour with a C5 and 0.33x reducer and wanting to live stack.
last night I was using Sharpcap 3.1 and could not get any the software to recognise any alignment stars
Exposure set to between 5 and 10 seconds I could physically see stars on the screen, focus looks reasonable (possibly not perfect).
Using Ascom to connect to camera...the only thing that concerned me was that my histogram was at the low end of the range, but by using histogram auto stretch stars were visible on screen, but not being picked up by the software.
Did a lot of playing with the stack options (noise, black threashold, minimum star size, digital gain) but could not get a good result.
Plate solver worked fine if I reduced the noise threshold. I also tried stacking in atik infinity software using the same exposure settings and this worked fine....so this kind of shows it is possible to detect the stars (I can attach this image later when I get home from work)...alas no stacking working in sharpcap
Downloaded 3.2, but it clouded over before I could try.
Any help would be much appreciated :)
Best wishes,
Colin

Hi Colin,

Probably the best thing to do is to post or share a single saved frame from your camera with the settings that you were using (use the snapshot button in SharpCap to save the frame). That would allow me to look test live stacking by loading up that frame into SharpCap simulation camera and see what's going on.

Hi Robin,
Thank you. The next time I have a clear sky, I'll do exactly that :)
Best wishes,
Colin
