Hi,

StarlightXpress cameras should work with SharpCap - SharpCap has native support for these cameras or you could use an ASCOM driver if one is available. I've no experience of that particular model or whether it is suitable for EAA though. I'd suspect that as a CCD it would have relatively high read noise, meaning that the shorter exposures typical of EAA might be an issue, but as always worth a try :)

cheers,

Robin

I purchased SharpCap Pro - it immediately pickup my ZWO ASI385 but does not recognize the SX 814. How do I fix that?

Hi,

try installing the latest beta build from http://www.sharpcap.co.uk/sharpcap/down ... a-versions.

If that still doesn't work, please post a log.

thanks,

Robin

Hi,

I can see two things of interest in that log

1) The camera looks like it is being detected as an 'Unknown Model'

Code: Select all

Detected Camera: Unknown Model (StarlightXpress Cameras)
- this means that SharpCap doesn't know about the name corresponding to the hardware ID of the camera. I would have thought that this text ('Unknown Model') would appear in the Camera list though - does it? If it does appear, does it work if you select it?

2) Your ASCOM setup looks to be somewhat broken - SharpCap is getting an error from ASCOM when trying to get a list of available cameras, which means that ASCOM cameras would not be available in SharpCap.

Code: Select all

Exception of type ProfilePersistenceException from Getting ASCOM cameras : RegistryAccess.New - Unexpected exception
Stack Trace: at ASCOM.Utilities.RegistryAccess.NewCode(Boolean p_IgnoreChecks)
at ASCOM.Utilities.RegistryAccess..ctor(String p_CallingComponent)
at ASCOM.Utilities.Profile..ctor()
ASCOM would be the fallback position if we can't get the direct access to the camera to work properly, but in unavailable until you can work out how to fix the 'Profile Persistence' error that ASCOM is seeing. From this thread - http://forum.mainsequencesoftware.com/t ... oblem/5143 - which describes the same error it seems that a complete uninstall and reinstall of ASCOM may fix the issue.

hope this helps,

Robin

Unknown model does highlight. When I click it, SC stops responding.

Ok,

can you try doing that with the log window open and see what new messages appear in the log after the click but before it locks up completely? There is a fair bit of logging in the code that opens the SX cameras, so seeing which messages appear and which don't will give me some idea of at what point the problem occurs.

You may not be able to copy the text from the log window after lockup, in which case a screenshot will be fine.

thanks,

Robin

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to uninstall ASCOM so I am stuck.

Download the latest version from this page - https://github.com/ASCOMInitiative/ASCO ... m/releases (the link that says ASCOMPlatform64.exe under 'Assets').

Run the downloaded installer once - it will upgrade your ASCOM platform.

Run the downloaded installer again - it will give you the option of uninstalling - choose that.

Run the installer a third time to reinstall it.

That should hopefully get your ASCOM profile fixed - then it may be worth installing the SX ASCOM driver and see if that works with SharpCap.

cheers,

Robin
