issue with touptek filter wheel with new beta instal

#1

Post by Opmc73 »

Hi Robin,

this is the 3rd time I install the beta and it mess the toupcam.dll that make the filterwheel not recognized. I have to reinstall each time the touptek ascom drivrer and then I need to reconfigure from scratch the filter wheel.

See below , it seems in installa a wrong or corrupted version of toupcam.dll in Sc , but not sure.

Hi,

the problem here is that there can only be one 'toupcam.dll' loaded into SharpCap, and the version that gets loaded first is the one that SharpCap installs. I guess that the ASCOM driver for the ToupTek filter wheel either uses a new or a special version of the DLL, and the version that SharpCap installs is missing the filter wheel related code.

The ideal thing would be for each of the ToupTek ASCOM drivers to use have a renamed version of the DLL - 'toupcam_filterwheel.dll', 'toupcam_focuser.dll', etc, which would then avoid clashes with applications like SharpCap and also clashes between the different ASCOM drivers themselves. However, that isn't likely to happen...

A good workaround is to use the ASCOM 'Just A Hub' device as a go-between - set up SharpCap to talk to 'Just A Hub Filterwheel', then that to talk to the ToupTek wheel. That fixes the problem by getting the ToupTek ASCOM driver running in a different process, which can then load its own copy of ToupCam.dll from the ASCOM folder without conflicting with SharpCap.

I will also have a check to see if there are new SDK updates that I haven't brought into SharpCap yet - maybe I have missed one.

cheers,

Robin
