low frame rate with Altair GP-Cam 664C

Post by jclarke775 »

I'm only getting 15 fps with a ROI of 760x760 with a 2mt Usb3.0 set to max. I think I was under 100ms or there about. I'm sure I have got much higher in the past and it captured much quicker. This is only the trial version so I can't alter memory settings. When I used Firecapture on the same night I got 192 fps with a 448x448 ROI. I also got a delay in FireCapture which made it awkward to centre the image with ASIair which I would love someone to explain.
Can someone explain why I'm getting such low frame rates in Sharpcap? It puts me off getting the full version unless you could persuade me it would solve this issue
thanks in advance

Hi,

firstly let me say that buying the 'Pro' version of SharpCap will not help with camera control related issues - none of that sort of stuff is restricted by not having a license.

I think the first thing to check is your exact exposure length - an exposure time near 100ms would limit you to roughly 10fps, 66ms will get you about 15fps. To get near to 200fps you need to have an exposure time below 5ms simply to have enough time in 1 second to get in 200x5ms exposures.

cheers,

Robin
