When changing exposure setting the exposure at first runs away to 30sec a couple of times before setting itself at the selected exposure time
Any ideas why this is happening?

Re: Changing exposure setting
Hi,
when you have the camera in 'live view' mode and you change the exposure and are already on a relatively long exposure (say 2s or more) then SharpCap tries to do the following...
* Cancel the current exposure is progress
* Set up the camera to the new exposure time
* Start a new exposure
Exactly how well that works depends rather on the camera, but some of the things that can happen include
* Cancelling the frame may end up just stopping the exposure early and producing a dimmer than usual image rather than cancelling and throwing away the frame
* The first frame after a change of exposure might not complete properly - this can lead to a frame that takes longer than it should (as SharpCap waits for it to complete, but it never does) then a dropped frame being registered in the status on the bottom left.
The thing to do is to watch the frame time at the bottom right and the frame count and dropped frame count at the bottom left. If the frame time runs down past zero then the dropped frame count increments, the camera is timing out on the requests for the new exposure time.
The most robust way to work if you want to change exposure and have the new frame work right every time is to switch SharpCap into 'still camera' mode - in that mode every image has to be specifically requested from the camera, so the complexity of changing exposure while a frame is in progress doesn't happen - however, that requires a change in how you work, so may not be what you really want.
cheers,
Robin

Re: Changing exposure setting
Sometimes the camera goes into a never ending exposure and after waiting for 4-5 minutes i have to shut the camera down and startup again

Re: Changing exposure setting
Hi,
it sounds like the camera may be failing to send a frame when SharpCap asks for one (SharpCap waits the exposure time plus up to about 15s, then gives up and tries again). After a number of failures, SharpCap will try to reset the camera to hopefully get things working again, but this doesn't always work. All this will be recorded in the log, so if you can find that and share it, I can diagnose.
cheers,
Robin
