Using master flat for live stacking

Hi,
Can anyone tell me why my master flat is different image size to the original camera dimension (3008)- I use the master flat from SC in DSS no problem but when I use it for the real time flat in a live stack it says it is the wrong image dimension (3000 x 2900) for the camera so cant be used?

Hi,

for dark/flat correction, SharpCap expects either an exact match between the size of the dark/flat and the capture area of the camera (for instance both 3008x3008 for your IMX533 camera), or that the dark/flat is full resolution (3008x3008) and the camera is being used at ROI (in which case SharpCap can cut out the relevant part of the full resolution dark/flat to use).

Since you are getting the message about the flat being unsuitable, either the flat or the camera must be in ROI - you will be able to see if the camera is currently in ROI by looking at the 'Capture Area' setting in the controls on the right in SharpCap. If your flat is in FITS format then you can open it with a tool like FITSLiberator to check the size of the image, although that information should all be in the message that you see when the flat frame cannot be loaded.

If none of that helps, feel free to post the SharpCap log file (captured after the error about the flat frame size has shown) and I can check through that to see if there is anything extra that might help reveal what is going on.

Hi Robin,
I've just used the camera monitor folder option and re-played it as a live stack with the SC master flat and it worked fine so I am not sure why it wouldn't work on the night with the same data.
