Indeed - probably made worse by the fact that I develop SharpCap on a very high spec PC - lots of memory, 16 core processor, fast SSDs, etc. In general that makes the developing faster as I spend less time waiting for stuff to build/run/load/refresh/etc, but for race conditions means I may regularly see the race condition come out a different way compared to average/low spec PCs...

Hi Robin, admin wrote: Mon May 11, 2026 9:28 am Hi,
glad to hear that you managed to recover the timelapse video
I did some more digging into this problem over the weekend and I think I now understand it and have a fix ready to go. It turns out that it depended on the timing of two separate bits of code running when the timelapse is finished. In most cases the timing comes out so that it all just works, but sometimes it is the other way round and you see the crash. The next update (later today hopefully) should fix the problem - at least if my understanding of what was happening is correct
cheers,
Robin
unfortunately , I have just installed the last version and did a try.
I selected a small area on the sun in normal live view. applied the roi, did lock. Then I move the ROI with the mouse. The area mouve in the roi panel , not on screen, once I release the mouse button, sharpcap freezed and then returned to desktop with no error log or whatever.
I saw that it occurs only when you have something in the ROI area, without the sun selected in the area it did not crashes.
I attached the last log may contains the crash info or just before ?
kind regards
Olivier

Re: crash ending live stack and issue with lock roi
Hi Olivier,
that looks like a different issue to the one we had before. I have managed to reproduce that one here in testing and it seems that the ToupTek SDK is requesting an immediate termination of the application due to SharpCap trying to change the ROI position both from the UI and from the target tracking at exactly the same time. I will look into getting a fix for that into the next update, but it shouldn't happen if you avoid dragging the ROI area around while the lock/center is activated. I may well try to deal with this by making the manual movement of the ROI 'locked' when the auto or center checkboxes are ticked if I can't get a robust solution another way.
The freeze of the image when you are dragging the ROI box around is typical for the ToupTek made cameras - when you change the ROI it takes a while for the camera to recover after the change, and if you are constantly moving the ROI box and hence changing the ROI, the camera basically is always trying to recover from the change and you end up with a frozen picture.
cheers,
Robin

Re: crash ending live stack and issue with lock roi
that would be already a great help , because it is really easy to forgot the roi muss not be move when lock (center also) is set... I try to remember but sometime the urgency of moving the ROI make the memory to be secondaryadmin wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 1:28 pm ... Re: crash ending live stack and issue with lock roi
Hi,
I think I have a fix for this that avoids having to lock out manual adjustments when the auto center/auto lock feature is on - I certainly can't make it crash any more. This will be in the next update to SharpCap 4.1
cheers,
Robin
