Where are the drivers for ZWO cameras?

#1

Post by UPMICHIGAN »

Hi,
It's been a minute since I was on the site and am having trouble getting the software to see my ZWO 533MC Pro so thought I'd post to the forum for some help but I can't see anywhere to create a new post so I decided as a last ditch effort to reply to this older message in hopes that it would be seen. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Reid,

sounds like you need the ZWO Camera drivers - these let Windows talk to your camera at a low level, and without them, nothing like SharpCap or ASCOM will even be able to detect that the camera is plugged in to the PC.

To get them, go to this page - https://www.zwoastro.com/software/ - then select 'Desktop App' as the middle of the three options, then scroll down a bit to find the 'Download' button for the Camera Driver. The direct link is https://dl.zwoastro.com/software?app=As ... n=Overseas

Install these, reboot, plug in your camera and hopefully it will be detected by SharpCap. Also worth noting is that you may need to provide 12V power to the camera as well as plug in the USB for it to show up - some cameras seem to need this, others are OK without 12V if you are not using the cooler.

cheers,

Hey Robin,
Just a couple of quick questions...would you please take a look at my account and see if it is properly active? There are two different things that lead me to believe that either I have not set up things properly at my end (most likely) or something is not set up correctly at your end (rather unlikely). First, when I tried to use the white balance in the program I received a message that I needed to have a SharpCap Pro license which I thought I did and it was a lifetime license. I could be wrong on the first part of this but I know I paid for the lifetime license a while ago. The other thing that leads me to believe that something is amiss is that I cannot find anywhere on the forums that I can select a button to make a post. Anything like this message is kind of back door to leave a message. I would think that there should be a button visible to me on the forum page that says post new message or something to that effect. If for some reason I am not recognized as a license holder, I could see where this would not allow me to post new messages. I was able to get SharpCap to see my ZWO 533 and I am trying to get things up and running without any help so I have my hands full here but once I can align things with the scope on a wedge and get a proper alignment, I would think imaging can't be far down the road from there. Thanks for any help you can offer, sorry to be a chronic problem but it has been challenging trying to figure everything out without any coaching...lots to learn to make it all work! Reid

Hi Reid,

two separate things there that are unrelated but both can be resolved.

Firstly the SharpCap Pro license - you do indeed have a lifetime license, so the fact that SharpCap is telling you it has no license means one of three things

1) You haven't entered any license code into this install of SharpCap
2) You have reset your SharpCap settings and need to re-enter the license code
2) Your previous one year license code is installed, not the lifetime one.

To resolve this, find the email with your license code in it to get the code itself (8 lines of text), then run SharpCap, choose Help->SharpCap Pro license and paste in the lifetime code. If you can't find the email, you can recover the license code using our recovery page : https://store.astrosharp.co.uk/Recovery

For the forums, the trick is to go into one of the forum areas first - like 'Bug reports' or 'How do I' or 'ZWO Cameras'. You can't post new topics on the forum main page - that has to be done in one of the sub-areas.

cheers,

Robin

That clears things up, I’ll get busy and update the license thing and now I understand how to post a note in the forums! I am going to head to the scope tonight and try to get something going with the 533 camera. I appreciate your help!
