Hi
I don't know if there will be any black friday deals or not. Would the 178 be a better deal for newbies as planetary and intro to deep sky?
The number of ZWO cameras confuse me.

Re: Asi716MC or ASI178?
Hi,
I don't think that ZWO are making the 178 any more, but maybe there are some still out there to buy at retailers? It's an old sensor now and newer models will outperform it in terms of sensitivity and lower noise.
The model numbers correspond to the model number of the sensor being used - usually this will be a Sony sensor, so the ASI178 contains the Sony IMX178 sensor and so on.
The things to look out for in a comparable modern camera are the pixel size (the 178 has quite small pixels at 2.4 micron - this is useful for planetary), the total sensor area (7.4mm x 5mm for the 178) and the speed that you can get (50fps at full resolution for the 178).
If you go for something with a smaller sensor area then you will see less of the sky in view at any one time, which makes finding targets (particularly planets) harder and limits the size of images for solar/lunar/deep sky. On the other hand, smaller sensors are cheaper...
Hope this helps,
Robin

Thanks Robin.
Had a couple of emails for black Friday (High Point, Ageno).
Not a huge discount but I'll think about it.
Cheers.
