Problem with Windows 11, omegon pro velox178c

#1

Post by Rene75 »

Hello,
I have the following problem with my omegon velox178c camera with Windows 11.
When I start the program SharpCap and select under cameras AA183CProtec, which is actually not my camera, I get the following error message, see screenshot. I have already downloaded and installed the latest version, but this error message appears.
Another program detected my camera. Can anyone help me solving the problem.

Thank you
René

Hi,

from the camera naming and the text of the error, it looks like your camera is being misidentified as an Altair Astro camera - at least by the camera detection code that comes from Altair. However, it clearly realizes that something isn't right when trying to open the camera, so the attempt fails.

I don't think that there is anything I can do to fix that particular problem, since the Altair code is basically doing the right thing by refusing to open the camera (and really it shouldn't detect it either).

What you need to do for your Omegon camera is to get the up-to-date DirectShow drivers for your camera (should be dated from the 2nd half of 2022 or from 2023). These have some enhancements in them that SharpCap should detect and be able to use to activate improved support for the camera. You can tell if it is working if SharpCap displays the full camera model name in the 'DirectShow Cameras' area, rather than just a generic 'OmegonCam' or similar.

I do have a copy of the drivers, but I don't know if it is a publicly released version or a 'work in progress' copy, so it's best that you try the approved download page first. It may be that there will be some slight changes to SharpCap needed to make this work even with the right drivers - let me know if the correct camera name does not show up.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Peter,

what version of SharpCap are you using? I was expecting the most recent versions to detect Omegon cameras as being 'ToupTek' cameras (perhaps with a slightly different model name). If the camera is detected under the ToupTek cameras section then please try that - it should work correctly.

thanks,

Robin

Hi,

there have been lots of different updates to SharpCap 4.1, so the exact version number is important - for instance 4.1.13332.

If that last number for the version of SharpCap you have installed is below 13000 then it's definitely worth getting the latest version from our downloads page and trying again (https://www.sharpcap.co.uk/sharpcap/downloads). If you already have a recent version then let me know as I may need to investigate further.

thanks,

Robin
