SV305 still not working

#1

Post by AstroTupelo »

Please carefully read all of this.

I still cannot get my SvBony SV305 camera to work with any of the current Sharpcap versions. You have replied that it seems to be only a small number of cameras affected but there are several other people on the Sharpcap Forums that state the same and I suspect there are countless many more people that have the same problem but just gave up and who just won’t put forth the effort to try to communicate with you and resolve it. When I scroll through the forums there are other SvBony camera models that people are also saying worked with past versions but now will not with newer Sharpcap versions.

The following is from another users post on the forums:

“Version 4.1 32 bit is a no go for any version.
Version 4.0 32 bit Build 8682 released 14 Feb 2022 works with SV305 in native mode. Yippee.
Version 4.0 32 bit Build 8695 released 21 Feb 2022 does not, and the notes indicate SVBony SDK updated. So I believe that SDK update breaks the SV305 native support.”

So here is what I am saying, on my one laptop with both the 4.0 32 bit build 8682 my SV305 works but with any other newer version on the same computer at the same time it does not work. So I would assume a couple of things:
The only thing that has changed in this scenario is the Sharpcap versions newer than the 4.0 8682 version.
If it were something with my software or microsoft codes in my computer it would not work with the 4.0 version either.
If the problem was with the SV Bony driver the why is it working on the same computer with the 4.0 version?
BOTTOM line THE ONLY THING THAT HAS CHANGED IS SOMETHING IN THE SHARPCAP PROGRAM IN THE NEWER VERSIONS THAT YOU DESIGNED.

WHY can you not just go see what the difference is or what changed at that point between the two versions of Sharpcap in relation to SvBony cameras and put it back to the configuration it was with the 4.0 8682 versions?

I assume that people with newer SvBony camera models can still use older versions of Sharpcap successfully, (I am not going buy a newer SvBony camera just to prove it though) but if that is the case, what is the point of changing something in the Sharpcap software that now prevents the older SV305s from working? Why can’t you just put it back to how it was in regards to whatever has changed in the Sharpcap software with the versions past 8682. Why must we keep being told we need to update something or look for a problem with our computer or drivers when the camera works on our current computer and current driver on the 4.0 8682 version currently on the computer but not on any newer Sharpcap version installed on the same computer side by side at the same time. The only obvious change or difference is something wrong in the newer Sharpcap version, nothing has changed on the computer or camera drivers, it is simple process of elimination.

Please help if you can. Thank you, Ken

Hi Ken,

unfortunately the issue you are experiencing is very rare (only affects a very small percentage of the users with SV305 cameras), and I am unable to reproduce the issue in my testing. I don't know if it is something odd about the cameras or something odd about the PC configuration that is causing it.

I can't just put things back the way that they were in SharpCap 4 - that would mean using the old SVBonySDK.dll, and while it might fix things for the small number of users with this issue, it would stop pretty much all of the more modern SVBony cameras from working in SharpCap - breaking things for far more people than it helps.

The only way that I can even start to work out what is going on is detailed feedback from people with the problem prepared to try things out and report back - so far, for instance, nobody has tried the suggestion I made here - viewtopic.php?p=45169#p45169 - and then reported back whether it helps or not.

thanks,

Robin

Scrolling through the forums it seems like it is not a rare problem and I can quickly see multiple people with the same issue and it is also not just the 305 but other Svbony camera models as well. Like I said, I do not intend to buy one of the latest Svbony camera models just to prove my point, but I highly suspect that if I were to purchase any of their current camera lineup and connected it to the 4.0 8682 or prior version that they would work correctly. Even if that is not the case there must be a folder or file location that could be interchanged with the old file in newer Sharpcap versions for those of us who would like to use the Svbony camera they already own. I even read a post on the forums where a user successfully did that, but I could not get that person to respond to give detailed instructions as to exactly what they did. They did say they just copied the file from the 4.0 8682 version and pasted it into the same location in the newer Sharpcap version and it worked, but I tried that and could not get it to work. I have already mentioned that post and user to you in previous message but have not received any information further.
It would seem that if he did that and it worked, why can't the details of that solution be passed on as a simple solution to those affected by this problem?

This is the forum post and user I referenced:

Hi
I tried to get the file SVBCameraSDK.dll from the "Version 4.0 64 bit Build 8682", which I know is correct, and I have pasted it into the latest version and it works correctly. So at least the latest version can be used."

Why can't we all be given more detail on exactly how to perform this solution since it seems to have worked for "AngelCastellanos" ?

I don't have the exact 4.0 version you have but these instructions should help you find and copy the dll files.

These instructions assume you have SharpCap 4.0 32-bit build 8682 and a newer version (v4.1?) installed on your computer.

Step 1 - enable file name extensions in order to clearly see you are manipulating the correct file.
  • Open File Manager
  • Select the C drive
  • Click on the View tab
  • Ensure File name extensions is checked

Step 2 - identify the required file in build 8682 (32-bit)

The path is C:\Program Files (x86)\SharpCap 4.0 and the name is SVBCameraSDK.dll
SC40-32bit.JPG
SC40-32bit.JPG (17.08 KiB) Viewed 868 times

Step 3 - Identify SVBCameraSDK.dll in equivalent folder in the new Sharpcap version (I assume 4.1). You don't want to overwrite this file just in case you need to revert to it.
  • Rename the file SVBCameraSDK.dll to SVBCameraSDK.old

Step 4 - file copy
  • Copy the file SVBCameraSDK.dll from version 4.0 build 8682 to the same folder in the new SharpCap installation
  • Test the camera connection
If you need to regress the change, the transferred dll can be deleted and SVBCameraSDK.old renamed back to SVBCameraSDK.dll

[Note: If you want to upgrade from build 8682 to a later version of Sharpcap 4.0 then start with an install of build 8682, copy the dll to the desktop, perform the upgrade and copy the desktop dll back into the correct folder (after renaming the new version).]

[Note: for the 64-bit build of SharpCap the path to the file would be C:\Program Files\SharpCap 4.0 (64-bit)]

There was mention in viewtopic.php?t=7656 post #3 of upgrading the SVBony drivers.

Hopefully this will help you solve your camera issue.
