I checked my system in 'Defrag and Optimise Drives' (Windows 10). It looks like this (note that both SSDs have 'trim' enabled):

That's actually quite interesting.

I ran the query on whether trim was enabled for my onboard SSD - yes
But in Win11 I don't see the word trim/retrim against the optimised entry as per your screenshot - trust MS to keep changing!

I've gone back to a mount PC and remote from another, but the Sun and obsy roof didn't cooperate - it was cloudy until late morning....Still to do testing....

It's not a known issue, but I'm wondering if the mount PC can't handle graphics as well as saving, even if there's dedicated memory - That's the only change this season to last...my straw to grasp in hope!

Whatever the rhyme or reason, going back to the mount PC controlled by a second PC has cured 'most' of the problem. Perhaps adding 2 monitors overwhelmed the processors - on 3 different mini-PCs! (one of the PCs has slots to run 4 monitors)

Saving runs through rapidly with minimal issues until the PC internal SSD starts to fill - then the slow buffering returns, but that's as expected as Robin points out, - the PC drive is only 128 GB, of which 76 GB is free space, SC starts to significantly buffer when 42 GB remains free. The Apollo Max has memory up to 834 frames (according to SC memory readout), 178 by comparison has 163 frames.

Saving to the 1TB external is slower than the internal, but there's more free space available, all data is copied to a NAS after each session.

So it's not the SSDs that's causing the problem......Sorry all.

Conditions this morning are appalling under a full blue sky. Focusing in WL and Ha unobtainable.

However I did a 4 panel mosaic as a test, 1000 frames per panel and there was no buffering.

Thanks for all your support and comments.
