Plate solve text to camera setting .txt file

#1

Post by PeterAB »

Hi Robin,

The information that appears in the banner after a plate solve is useful. Would it be possible to save this information in text format in the camera settings .txt file? The most important information to me is the calculated focal length, image size, and orientation with respect to north. It would be ideal if this text could be generated after an automatically (goto target sequence) or manually (tools-plate solve) triggered plate solve. Coordinates would be handy as well when I'm using a manual tracking telescope. This would be redundant with the coordinates from the mount, but, I don't think this would be a problem.

I can foresee an issue with some this information going stale after a mount movement without a new plate solve. It may need to be cleared out after a mount movement. Does SharpCap detect the mount being moved after a plate solve? I am thinking that at least the calculated focal length and image size should be constant for an imaging session and would be safe to save in any case.

Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter,

an interesting suggestion - perhaps the simplest approach would be to have a 'last plate solve' line in the capture settings containing that textual information? That way it wouldn't interfere with the normal data like the RA/Dec position that is stored if a GOTO mount is in use, and users can pay as much (or as little) attention to it as they liked.

Would that suffice for your use case?

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin,

Yes, that would be ideal. Labeling it as the "last plate solve" would clue everyone up that the solution could be stale if conditions changed.
