Auto focus error in new version

Error: Aborting focuser scan because the focuser failed to report a settled state
Sharpcap version: v4.1.13041.0
Focuser: Gemini Focuser Pro
This is a new bug. In previous version of Sharpcap focus scan worked well. In this version, I get this bug. Sharpcap can control the focuser manually without problem, including backlash, but when trying focus scan I get this error.

sorry about that - this version did contain that bug, but it is fixed in the update 4.1.13043, which went online about 1 day later. Please update and all should be fine.

Somehow I get the same error (using the same focuser). I’ve updated to the latest version, which is 4.1.13078, 64Bit.
Focuser works fine manually. Maybe I did something wrong, it just never works with the focus tools.

OK, I thought I had resolved that error, but wasn't 100% sure since I can't actually make the error happen myself, so I had to try to reason out why/how it was happening.

Please can you retest, but first turn on the option to 'Log additional information about Focuser Hardware communication' in the SharCap logging settings (before connecting to the camera or focuser). That option should make every request for the status of the focuser get added to the log, and I will be able to check to see why the problem is happening (or if it is actually correctly reporting that the focuser is not coming out of the 'moving' state). If you could send me the whole log it would be helpful - probably best to zip it into a zipfile then upload it here as an attachment. Alternatively you can email it to me - use the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the page.

Hi Robin,

Although i didn´t opened the thread, maybe my logfile is also useful. I turned on additional logging, re-started SharpCap. After connecting mound and camera i went straight to focuser tools. Tried to perform a scan and got the error messages mentioned. Did some manual focus and closed the programm again.

edit: I also noticed that i need to open the ASCOM Control Console from within SharpCap for the Focuser. After that, the Edge detection shows me some values. However, if i manually change focus it will just update once and then it shows no change in values, even if there are. Going back to the console and the new values are there. Maybe i am doing something wrong?

thanks for posting the log - from it, it definitely looks as though the focuser is reporting correctly, which means that somewhere I have a bug lurking in SharpCap that I haven't spotted yet. I will investigate further and report back.

Thanks for investigating! I’m pretty sure quite a lot people will benefit from it. It‘s a budget focuser, but not so bad at all. So there are quite a lot floating around I think.

OK, I have this sorted now - my mistake I'm afraid... I was recording the time that the focuser stopped moving in local time, but ended up comparing it to the UTC time to see how long it had been stationary for. If your timezone matches UTC (like here in the UK) it works perfectly. If you have a UTC-XXh time zone then the focuser will always report as being settled, if you are UTC+XXh then it will never report settled - at least not for a few hours!

Normally I try to work everything in UTC to avoid this sort of thing, but one slipped through. It will be fixed in Monday's update.
