Support for QHY11M CCD Camera

#1

Post by mscherman »

Hello, I really love SharpCap and was wondering if there was Beter support for the QHY 11M CCD camera. I know this is a really old camera but it is a 16 bit 11 MP powerhouse and was wondering if SharpCap could beter support this legacy camera. SharpCap seems to recognize the camera, but frequently crashes when trying to take images of any kind (TIFF, FITS etc). Also, I am not sure if it capturing preview images in anything other than 2 bit (literally black and white) image depth, and not the 16 bits this monochrome camera supports. Thank you!

Hi,

I'm sorry to say that there isn't a great deal that I can do directly about this - recent versions of the QHY SDK (which SharpCap uses to communicate with the cameras) seem to have had somewhat flaky support for older CCD cameras, but are required to allow newer models to be supported.

The best thing to try would be to find and use an ASCOM driver for the camera - that should make the camera usable in SharpCap as it will contain an older SDK version that will likely work more stably. Note that old ASCOM drivers may only work correctly in the 32 bit version of SharpCap.

Hope this helps,

Robin
