SharpCap doesn't start

Hi,

I've installed the software and try to start it but it doesn't start without messages. Where can I check the logs? How to troubleshout it? I tried with 4.1 64 and 32 bits and 4.0 64 bits.

Any way to add debug or verbose?

Hi again, I can see these messages attached in the event viewer.

Could you please help me to solve it?

I reinstalled .net runtime running the repair mode for SharpCap but was not resolved.

Hi,

it looks like something is going wrong quite early in the startup of the application - before the normal log output is initialized.

Please run SharpCap.exe from a command prompt and add the /debuglaunch option to the command line, so something like

Code: Select all

"c:\Program Files\SharpCap 4.1 (64 bit)\SharpCap.exe" /debuglaunch
This will cause SharpCap to show some messages on screen as it works through the startup procedure - please note down what is on each message that appears and report back here - if it is a long complicated message then a screenshot would be good.

One thing you can try too is to consider whether antivirus software may be stopping SharpCap from starting up properly. This can be a particular problem for 'free' antivirus applications that would really like to sell you their paid upgrade - those programs tend to be very invasive to try to convince you that they are doing important stuff and are worth paying for. You may find that disabling the anti-virus might resolve the issue. I tend to stick with Microsoft's own built in antivirus which is pretty good and unobtrusive.

Hi,

thanks, it all corresponds to a failure at the point that the main code for SharpCap is being loaded and initialized, but no obvious cause from the debugging info or the log. However, I did find this StackOverflow question which is a close match for the error being seen - https://stackoverflow.com/questions/433 ... d-failfast .

SharpCap uses obfuscation technologies to prevent license code hacks and intellectual property theft, so if you have some tool similar to the Dynatrace tool as mentioned in the link then it may cause issues by interfering with SharpCap's operation as it tries to monitor the application.

Hi Robin,

I've uninstalled 2 security software from my previous job but I still have the same, how can we identify wich software is the problematic one? I cannot identify any other suspicious software.
