ASI2600DUO Fan

#1

Post by MarcoMur »

All,
I started using a brand new ASI2600MC Duo with SharpCap.
As I power up the camera the fan starts running, then I open SharpCap, connect the camera and the fan goes off.
Whatever I do it will not start up again until I power OFF and ON the camera again.
Electronics are working fine, if I don't connect the camera in SharpCap, fan runs forever...
Updated SharpCap and ASI drivers, same story.
Problem is that it can't reach the desired temperature.

Any idea?

Hi,

in the thermal controls section of the camera controls on the right there is a 'Cooler' On/Off control for ZWO cameras - by default it will start at 'Off'. Are you switching that to 'On'? That should bring the fan back to life and turn on the camera cooler (at least it does on my cooled ZWO cameras).

cheers,

Hi Marco

Do you use an external power source for your camera? And if so, is it working correctly?
What you describe I recognise when only an USB connection is used: the fan will spin with USB connected. But as soon as there is more power action needed (cooling, collecting data, etc) and there is no dedicated power supply, things will stop.

Hi Menno,
I have an external power supply, the one that is normally powering a qhy 268m...I'll double check it anyway.

Hi,

do you have the very latest SharpCap 4.1 from our downloads page? Older versions may contain out-of-date components related to the ZWO cameras and that might cause issues with the latest models.

All,
1. updated all drivers, ASCOM platform and SharpCap version, same behaviour.
2. connecting the camera with older Nebulosity sw via ASCOM, everything works as intended. Fan is OFF/ON as soon as I disable/enable thermal control.
3. connecting the camera with Sharpcap: via native ZWO drivers it goes off and never ON again. via ASCOM it works perfectly as in Nebulosity.

Clearly there is something wrong either with the SDK or the way SharpCap handles them.

Hi,

thanks for the update. I have just tested again and with the ASI071MC Cool, the fan shuts off when SharpCap asks the SDK to initialize the camera - I suspect the same is happening with your 2600DUO. With the older 1600MM, the fan stays on regardless, so there is not a great deal of consistency.

Please can you set the option to record extra logging from 'Camera Hardware Communications' in the SharpCap logging settings, then open the camera. If you then try to get the cooler to come on by adjusting things, close the camera and send me the log, I can follow the commands SharpCap sends to the camera and see if anything unusual comes up compared to what I see in testing here.

thanks,

Robin

sorry for the stupid question but...where do I find the logs? Do you prefer to have them attached or sent by email (in case, which one)?
