CPWi + NEMA + The Sky = OK, CWI + SharpCap = Not OK

Hi,

I've had a good search through any CPWI + SharpCap Pro forum issues and haven't any info that explains the issue I'm experiencing.

I'm using a Celestron scope running CPWI that works reliably with both NEMA and The Sky professional but fails to connect to the CPWI in the Hardware Panel for either scope and Celestron CPWI focus control.

My QHY camera works flawlessly with SharpCap connecting every time.

If I select CPWI as the hardware then select the properties tab in SharpCap I get the message ' SharpCap has shown you the setup window for CPWI and is waiting for you to close it. A moment later another pop up message appears with an Ascom banner settings saying the 'configuration is made through the CPWI interface'

Interestingly selecting any of the hardware in SharpCap reports back similar error messages.

I have checked both the CPWI program and Ascom for any other additional settings and none found.

My question why does NEMA and the SKY connect via CPWI without any issues while SharpCap is unable to do so ?

I have uninstalled Ascom, Nema, CPWI and SharpCap and reinstalled in the following order. CPWI, Ascom then SharpCap. The result is the same I cant get SharpCap to talk to CPWI. I have also deselected the telescope and focus in both NEMA and The Sky to see if that would resolve the issue to no avail.

I'm using the latest builds of Sharpcap, Ascom, CPWI, NEMA and The Sky and W11-64 with the latest updates including .net

I have tried on two different PC's W10 and 11. I still cant get ShapCap to work with CPWI.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Sean.

Hi Sean,

firstly, the use of the 'Properties' or 'Setup' button and the fact that you get first a message from SharpCap, then an ASCOM message is a bit of a red herring. As the ASCOM message says, all the configuration is done via the main CPWI application, so there is no need to use the Properties/Setup buttons in SharpCap.

All you should need to do is

* Select the CPWI mount and CPWI focuser in the SharpCap hardware settings dropdowns, then press OK to save the settings

* Open the camera, then click the 'Connected' check boxes in the right hand panel to actually connect to the CPWI ASCOM driver for the mount/focuser

I am getting the impression from your message (but not 100% sure) that you are also getting an error when trying to check the 'Connected' check box. Can you confirm and let me know what error you get when you do try to connect that way? A screenshot showing the exact error message (or even better the contents of the SharpCap log after trying and failing to connect) would reveal a lot more.

thanks,

Robin

I use CPWI regularly with a Celestron CGX-L and SharpCap and have NEVER had any problems
What version of CPWI do you use? Have you downloaded the latest update available from the Celestron website?
