Run 2 instances of SC sequence for eclipse capture?

#1

Post by stbkaiser »

Hi
Crazy idea???
I am planning on imagining the Eclipse with 2 different camera/scopes on the same mount.
I would like to run 2 SC Eclipse sequences(one for each rig) on the same PC.
Only 1 SC instance would be connected to mount.
I would set the capture timing for Pre-Post eclipse to be offset from each other to prevent simultaneous captures..
Since the one rig is a Lunt scope, and would not "see" anything during totality, I would only do a token exposure.
The other rig would be shooting bracketed exposures during Totality to capture the full Corona.
Any real problems trying to do this?
all inputs welcome.
Take care

Hello stb,

It is not a problem to run several instances of SharpCap.
No, it is not a crazy idea (also not the creasiest) I did it with 3 cameras for an occultation.
Yes, connect only one SharpCap with the telescope.

The limiting is the hardware. How many processors ? HD or SSD drive ? USB connection ?
Note that some SSD drives reduce the transfer rate after some time (buffer) or while the free space is too low.
So if you have only a "duo" processor with HD drive with USB 2.0, then you need to test it before.
If you have a "quad" with SSD (NVM) and USB 3.0 ... then you will have more reserve.
Which cameras will be used ?
