Post by turfpit »

Captured April 2020, ~75% waxing moon. Captured around 23:30.
A chance to have a look at waveSharp - the successor to Registax.
See https://github.com/CorBer/waveSharp/rel ... g/v1.0beta for download & documentation.

Celestron AVX Mount, Celestron C8 SCT, UV/IR cut filter, QHY5LII-M camera, JMI motorised focuser.
1280x960, MONO8, SER, exposure=10-15ms, gain=10.
Sharpcap 3, Autostakkert!3, waveSharp 1.0 beta.
Stack best 50% of 2000 frames with drizzle 1.5. waveSharp using Bilateral filter (5.0,500)

Amazed at how you picked up Hadley rille so clearly! (Apollo 15 landing site)
Great work, Dave.

Hi Dave,

nice images - some very good detail and the sharpening/processing look to be spot on to me - giving a natural but crisp/sharp look.

cheers,

Thanks Robin. I must have had good conditions that night.

It has taken some effort and time (years) to get to this stage. Some of the factors contributing to the images are:
  • The QHY5LII-M and UV/IR filter work well together.
  • The Celestron C8 seems to do well.
  • Hands-off motorised focusing gives better results, quickly.
  • Use of the Highlight Over Exposed and stepping back the exposure before capture.
  • Set Zoom to 150% helps get a good focus.
  • Drizzle 1.5 in Autostakkert works well with the QHY5LII-M.
I am getting used to waveSharp (more hours spent learning). https://github.com/CorBer/waveSharp/rel ... g/v1.0beta goes to the latest beta (link valid at Feb 2 2024). Here you will find the software, a pdf describing the interface and functions plus a link to a document describing Denoise using FastFourierTransform.
