Log File housekeeping ?

#1

Post by TimHaymes »

Hi Robin,

I dont have many log-files in 2023. The last one was 2023-12-02. My question is whether or not old files are deleted by SharpCap?
If so, is there way to increase that time period, or should I copy them by hand?

Why you ask? Well It occurred to me that this a record of telescope usage over time, as well as fault finding. Usage stats usually correspond with weather conditions and the logs are a possible source.

Hi Tim,

SharpCap will automatically clean up logs older than 60 days when it starts to avoid the number of files (and potentially the size) getting out of hand. That means that unless you copy the files regularly you can't rely on it as a long term record of observing sessions. As long as you are saving _some_ files each time, your SharpCap Captures folder will be a better record of when you managed to get the telescope out.

cheers (and possibly see you at the AAS meeting on the 12th Feb)

Robin
