Yes. I believe one of the earliest demonstrations of this did involve film and the exposure time was months.

Hi Alan,
there is no real mechanism for donations, since SharpCap runs as a business now. Feel free to buy a 1-year license and not use it (or donate the license to your local astronomical society to use in outreach).
