Re: PushTo direction
Hi,
interesting - not something I have seen before. Is there any chance you can find the SharpCap log from the session and send it to me so I can see if I can work out what is going on (Instructions on finding previous SharpCap logs here : https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/4.1/#The%20SharpCap%20Log)
I am wondering if it is something to do with being near the pole - in most places in the sky you can treat the lines of constant RA and Dec as being straight and parallel in the image, but not near the pole.
cheers,
Robin

Re: PushTo direction
Thank you Robin.
Mêh. I seems the clouds will obstruct my view tonight. I will try to perform some push to actions at different locations in the sky when clouds allow. I will let you know how it goes!

Re: PushTo direction
Hi robin
I saw the post about push to near Polaris. I also have a 12” dob so I gave it a try. I offset the scope maybe 10 deg and entered Polaris as target. Astap started solving and was taking a while maybe 90 sec. I entered Polaris in the mount goto for the telescope.net virtual mount. Then solved again the push to moved me to Polaris quickly. I noticed one thing I had seen before when near higher declinations
The push to will sometimes tell me to go 359 left instead of 1 right. I think this is caused by the tilt of my equatorial platform. Seemed to work fine though.

Re: PushTo direction
Hi George,
thanks for testing that - sounds like it's probably not a 'polar area' thing then. I will look into the 359 left issue, sounds like it should be easy to fix - just move it into the range -180 to 180 by adding/subtracting 360 as required.
cheers,
Robin

Glad to help. When I use push to I start with equatorial platform reset to start position to allow max time for imaging. This puts my straight up view of my scope to the east of zenith. This affects push to amount because mount is not a true alt/az anymore. The effect is minimal unless looking close to zenith. Then the azimuth will swing wildly with small changes of elevation. This is because of mount tilted from level. I can put platform back to level to solve.

My issue Sharcap not giving push to directions (left/right and up/down in the bottom text line of the window).admin wrote: Mon Oct 16, 2023 9:32 am Hi,

Today I gave it an other try. Far from perfect sky, but good enough. Star-hopped to M101, followed by a regular plate solve action (no push to). This worked flawlessly. Now the "push to action". Same thing as before: no left/right and up/down shown! Since I was near M101, I tried a second push to action to Polaris. Same result: no directions given.
I have made a copy of the log, however the log is very lengthy so I do not dare to post it here...
Perhaps I should remove SC completely, and install all over...
Re: PushTo direction
Robin,
I was imaging tonight and tried push to to ngc188 near ncp.
Ansvr went to it fine. While I was close I switched to astap then used push to again. Astap had 85 stars read but still didn’t want to solve I waited until 90 deg searched and never solved. Might be a problem with astap.

Re: PushTo direction
Hi George,
next time the clouds clear I will try Astap near the north celestial pole. Just to check, is your version of Astap up to date? It tends to get updated fairly often, so it can be easy to be left behind.
cheers,
Robin
