ZWO AM5 mount compatibility question

#1

Post by Moonstruck »

Robin,
I have a question about the relatively new ZWO AM5 harmonic mount. Is it compatible for use with EQ-MOD and Sharpcap? I looked at the Sharpcap hardware settings tab but didn't see anything for the AM5. If it is compatible, how would I enter this mount into Sharpcap?

Here is a link to the mount:

Hi,

the AM5 mount will have its own ASCOM driver that you need to download from the ZWO web site and install - once you have done that it will show up in the SharpCap hardware list (although it won't work unless you actually have the mount too!!). It won't use EQMOD, since that's designed for Skywatcher (and rebranded Skywatcher) mounts.

If you connect to your mount from multiple applications (SharpCap, Stellarium, Cartes du ciel, etc) you may just need to use the ASCOM Device hub to enable sharing the AM5 mount between applications (EQMOD did this automatically without needing device hub, not sure if the ZWO ASCOM driver does it automatically or not).

I haven't heard of any specific issues with it yet in SharpCap.

cheers,

Robin

Hello,

I did last august a test with an AM5 mount and SharpCap.

I used my Python capture script (for the sun observation with a spectrometer).
I found a problem (it is maybe solved today) ... the tracking in RA was disabled during a movement in DEC with the ASCOM driver.
And the tracking in RA was resumed when the DEC movement stopped.

Now, I do not remember the behaviour with the SharpCap telescope buttons.

I'm interested if you can confirm this bug or if it is corrected.

Regards,
Jean-Francois
