standard configuration to record the moon

#1

Post by raurgo »

Hi!
I just started with Sharcap, yesterday I shot my first images and it was a disaster. Can someone tell me standard recording parameters:
exposure:
revenue:
offset:
bin:
and any other information that helps me.
(I'm coming from FireCapture and it differs a lot).
thank you

Hi and welcome

There aren't any real "standard" settings, it depends a lot on what equipment you are using. Can you share that?
And could you also share the settings that you used?

Hi Menno.
Use the default ones.
I am using SkyWatcher SC 150/1800 ZWO ASI462MC.
I have deleted the files. I can't provide the setup I used.

Hi,

what exactly made the images a disaster? Was it too dark? Too bright and washed out? Blurry? Lack of contrast? Without knowing that it's hard to make specific recommendations.

One thing I did notice was that you had auto exposure turned on. Sometimes the amount of contrast between the bright surface of the moon and the dark background can confuse autoexposure, so it may be best to switch to manual exposure and then adjust it yourself, as you are then in charge of the adjustments and making sure you get the desired results.

cheers,

Robin

Hi Robin,
The problem is my lack of knowledge of sharcap, I come from firecapture where there are standard values for the moon, jupiter...
Yesterday I tried it again and it worked fine for me, I managed to record in good conditions and images (for the second day).
Thank you.

Hi,

ok, glad to hear that you got it sorted. I am actually working on a new autoexposure feature for SharpCap that should auto-set exposure and gain for solar system targets (once you have the target in view). I think that may help when it is ready to use.

cheers,

Robin
