Atik one 6.0 - camera and filter wheel control

Hi Robin,

I am facing the same kind of problem with my new ATIK ONE 6.0 camera.
I mean:

- it works perfectly well on Artemis Capture software
- but when I try to shift to Sharpcap I do not have full control of my camera i.e. :

1- Selecting Atik One camera (Atik driver) I have no control of camera temperature nor filter wheel on the control panel, and I get the following message:
"An error occured while trying to connect to yout Atik FilterWheel
The details of the Error are: Wheel did not connect on request
-> Ignore Error
-> Report Error"

2- Selecting Ascom One camera (Ascom driver) Sharpcap freezes, and I get the following message:
"An error occured while starting your Atik camera
The details of the Error are: point d'entrée introuvable.
-> Report Error"

I have installed the latest Ascom driver and the latest Ascom plateform 6.6

I want to keep using Sharpcap because it has much more tools than Artemis (including sequencing).
Is there now some better understanding and (hopefully) a solution for this problem, since previous post is dated 2018?

Hi Remy,

For the first set of issues (SharpCap direct control of the camera), I would have expected the cooler to be available - SharpCap should support both set point control and cooler power level control (depending on which your camera has). I have the cooler working with the 314L camera I use to test here. SharpCap does not currently support the on-camera filter wheel, and I suspect that once the camera is connected to SharpCap for imaging, the ASCOM driver will fail to connect to it to use the filter wheel.

For the ASCOM driver, that sounds like a software configuration issue - the ASCOM driver is trying to use a DLL and not finding the functionality that it expects in the DLL. SharpCap does not actually install any DLLs for Atik cameras as part of the SharpCap installer - it requires the Atik core package to be installed separately (https://www.atik-cameras.com/core-software-downloads/). It might be worth re-installing that to see if that helps, and making sure that you do not have multiple versions of that package or the ASCOM driver installed. You could also try the 32 bit version of SharpCap if you are currently using 64-bit (or 64 bit if using 32 bit).

It's possible that I might be able to fix the cooling issue if I had a full log from SharpCap captured after opening the camera in 'Atik Cameras' mode. Please turn on the option to 'Log additional camera hardware communication' in the logging settings before opening the camera. It also may be possible to add filter wheel control if you are prepared to do some testing of trial versions - I have this functionality for some QHY cameras, so know it should be possible.

I have de-installed and re-installed the Atik Core pakage.
I am using the Sharpcap 3.2 version.
I still have the same problems for both cooling and filterwheel issues (in Atik camera mode and in Ascom camera mode)

Hi Remy,

looks like you are using SharpCap 3.2, which was last updated nearly 2 years ago. There have been lots of improvements and bug fixes since - the current version is 4.0 and I am now working on 4.1

Please try the latest version of SharpCap 4.0, which you can download here : https://www.sharpcap.co.uk/sharpcap/downloads

Hopefully that will do a better job!

Hi Robin,

So good!
I have installed Sharpcap 4.0 and the result is as below:

- in Sharpcap direct control of the camera -> Camera OK, emperature control OK, only missing filterwheel connection (as forcast)
- in Ascom mode -> camera control OK, but nothing on the screen, temperature control OK, filterwheel connected
The only remaining problem is: why is there no camera image on the screen in this mode.

By the way, how to open Sharpcap in english? I am so used to work with sharpcap in english that I am a litlle bit lost with the french version
Shouldn't it be a language choice option?

I also didn't find how to turn on the 'additional camera hardware communication log' to trace the remaining issue.

Hi Remy,

good to hear that you are making some progress with the newer version of SharpCap.

The ASCOM error looks like it might not be the first problem - it is saying that the camera is not ready to start a new exposure when SharpCap requests one, but the question is probably 'why is it not ready?'. Maybe the first exposure never finished properly?

I will try the Atik ASCOM driver with my camera to see if I see the same issue (which would let me try to debug and solve it). If that doesn't help then we will have to think again about how to work this out.

Hi Robin,

I have also tested the Ascom mode with my ATIK 314L camera.

I got the same results as for my ATIK One camera, i.e. :
- in Sharpcap direct mode: no problem, everything fine for the camera (I didn't use a filterwheel)
- in Ascom mode: no problem with camera control, BUT STILL NO IMAGE PREVIEW

I feel the Ascom mode tricky and quite difficult to deal with.

On an other hand, I feel the Sharpcap mode very easy to handle and to operate, except for the on-camera FilterWheel connection.
Clearly Shapcap currently does not support the filterWheel.

'An error occurred while trying to connect your Atik FilterWheel FilterWheel
The details of the error are: Wheel did not connect on request'

On each test the Wheel makes a small sound, but did'nt connect.

Frankly speaking, I have no idea of how difficut it is to sort out this issue, but it would be good if you coud try to solve it, thanks.
In this way Atik One cameras could be direcly fully supported by Sharpcap!

That new version is supposed to have support for the direct connection to the Atik wheel, but the 'Wheel Did not connect on request' message tends to suggest that you were using the ASCOM wheel option instead?

If you were not using that new version, please give it a try (and set the hardware wheel settings option to 'None', using the camera via the Atik Cameras option). If you were, please try with the hardware wheel setting set to None and use the Atik Cameras option for the camera. If you still have no luck, please send me your SharpCap log.

My testing was successful!!!

I uploaded the latest Sharpcap update version (64 bits), followed precisely your instructions and ... done, I could control both ATIK ONE camera and its FilterWheel in only one single screen!

Thank you very much Robin, your response was swift as lightning!

One can now benefit from Sharpcap full functionnalities to monitor the very popular ATIK ONE camera, rather than shifting to other softwares just to control the filterwheel, as it was previously the case.

One more time thank you very much, I'll send you any log when necessary, but my testing was exhaustive as far as I know.
