How to I save 48 bits files with RGB info?

#1

Post by [email protected] »

Hi I only see RAW8, RAW16 and RGB24 options. I couldn't find options to save files of 48 bits with RGB info. Camera model is QHY247C.
Another concern is the SharpCAP Software couldn't capture image with real color? I showed Red, Blue and Green, but save images are greenish.

Thanks!

Hi,

the best thing to do is to capture to RAW16 and then to postprocess the images to get them into full RGB48 colour after capture. This has a couple of advantages:

* RAW16 images are 1/3 the size of RGB48
* In post processing you can choose from a range of different algorithms for debayering the raw image (SharpCap just uses bilinear internally)

Plenty of applications can be used to debayer images - one of my favourites is PIPP (https://sites.google.com/site/astropipp/home) as it is very customizable and can convert in batches.

The green colour cast is fairly normal - modern sensors are most sensitive in the green region of the spectrum and often least sensitive in the blue. Again, you can correct this in post-processing if you wish. By fixing in post-processing you record the raw data from the sensor without adjustments, allowing you to mess around in processing as much as you like, but always working from pristine data.

cheers,

Robin
