download time
I am new to Sharpcap and DSO cooled cameras. I upgrade my canon 50d. Question is a 30s exposure takes 30s to download for 60 sec and so on. is there something in the settings doing this or is the capture time always equal to the download time?
Re: download time
Hi and welcome
The download time is almost instant (depending on what kind connection).
I regularly do 600sec exposures and when an exposure is finished, it's almost right away on my PC.
The same for highspeed exposures of the moon. It downloads to my PC at around 90 to 120 frames per second.

Re: download time
On the Canon camera there is a setting that will look something like "Long exp. noise reduction" in their menus. If that is set to On or Auto, then the camera will essentially take a second exposure with the shutter closed of the same duration as the primary exposure and use it like a dark frame, to reduce the noise of the primary photo. That makes it seem as though it is taking 30 seconds to download the image, but it is really taking a second image then downloading. It can be turned off, and that will speed up the process. You can then make a master dark of your own to use in post processing to reduce noise.
That same issue is not present on a cooled camera. The download will be very fast.

Re: download time
Hi,
yes, Chuck is right - this sounds like the long exposure noise reduction (LENR) feature in the camera. You can turn it off (I think) in the camera settings. If you leave it on then there is an option in the 'Cameras' settings to make SharpCap allow enough time for it to happen - without that option SharpCap will assume that the frame capture has failed about 15 seconds after it was due to finish based on the exposure length.
cheers,
Robin

Re: download time
I am using the new Svbony sv605cc (imx533) camera not the Canon. I upgraded from the Canon. When I do live stacking it downloads very quickly but when I set a sequence in capture the first 'frame is instant but the rest of the frames take as long as the exposure, 180 sec exposure takes 180 sec to download for 360 sec. maybe i am missing something.

Re: download time
Hi,
OK, so I can confirm the issue with the SV605 when the camera is in still mode - often, but not quite always, the time taken for an exposure is twice the correct duration. I have also tested with an SV305Pro, and that seems fine.
I can't see anything wrong in my code, so I will ask SVBony and see if they have any ideas.
thanks for the report!

Re: download time
Hi Jim,
just thought I would let you know that I have received an updated SDK from SVBony, which fixed the download time issue for me. I have now added this to a new version of SharpCap (4.0.9481) which is available on the usual download page. Hopefully this will fix the issue for you too
clear skies!
