Sensor Analyst ASI485MC

#1

Post by Annares »

Hello,
i am still learning all function of sharpCap.
So i have tryed the Sensor Analyst, but the Data is way from the DataSheet from the ASI485mc. I think i can't tust them.
I tried several times, the date are always about the same. I have tried it under different conditions.
So the ASI has 12 Bit and i do the sensor analysis with raw16.

The read noise is significantly lower than specified by the manufacturer.
Is there the possibility to write and insert my own table, so that i can transfer the information from the manufacturer.

Thanks for the great job.
Clear skys,
Jan

Hi,

I'd suggest that the manufacturer may have the wrong graph uploaded in this case. Everything else looks right in your analysis (bit depth of sensor, FWD of device, etc) so there are no obvious errors with the analysis (otherwise those readings would be wrong). I have also checked my archive of analysis measurements and other measurements for the ASI485 come out very similar to your values.

If you look up the QHY485 online, you find that they claim a read noise of 0.7 to 1.09 in HCG mode, which ties in closely with your measurements at gain 100 and above. I'd also be very surprised to see a modern sensor with a read noise of nearly 6 at minimum gain - that would be a *big* step back compared to sensors like the IMX290 which also has 2.9 micron pixels.

cheers,

Robin

Thanks Robin.
So than i have burned my DR for nothing the last few months. Wanted advantages of low readnoise by 1. According to the manufacturer, this would be at gain 250-300. (short exposures for EAA).

I am wondering why in the manual standing 6,4-0,7e.

Even the asi zwo 482 has a high read noise in the manual of 12,9-1,5e. I think its a binned asi 485. Already confusing.
