ASI294MC - Pro offset
ASI294MC - Pro offset
I've seen it mentioned in many places, including ZWO's documentation... that the offset (brightness, black level, etc) of the 294 is locked and can no longer be adjusted. But, SC still has a slider for it, and when running a sensor analysis it changes that value several times for measurement.
Can someone enlighten me on where I'm getting confused?

Hi
They did indeed locked it but they reversed that change a while back in their drivers. Seems they did not change that in their documentation yet.

Re: ASI294MC - Pro offset
Just to add that it is also pretty obvious - in my case anyway - that the brightness slider in SC is an important setting and does exert a significant effect with my current drivers. i.e Change it and I see the histogram move along and back,,

Re: ASI294MC - Pro offset
Interesting.
I was sort of hoping it was locked...one less variable to deal with.
With my ASI224MC, SC's smart histogram always recommends a value of 12, so I just set the offset to 12 and leave it there. I'm hoping I can do that with this 294 as well.

Re: ASI294MC - Pro offset
I had first light with it last night, and I ended up with a substantial green glow around the edges, even though I used a master dark and flat. Looks like I have some 'sperimentin to do.
(The star colors it captured were phenomenal though)

Re: ASI294MC - Pro offset
In my case SC always suggest offset 4, and i think flats will eliminate the green glow!
Re: ASI294MC - Pro offset
I used the method Robin describes here for getting a good offset value. For this camera, I found that increased offsets are needed when gain is increased.

Oops, I thought I put the link. Sorry. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1209&start=50#p6863
Re: ASI294MC - Pro offset
Thanks
I think I now know why I occasionally don't have any left-hand adjustment on small dim objects (galaxies) with a lot of dark background.
I need to go rework my presets and darks that have just been set at a default offset of "8".
