Colorizing a live image

#1

Post by donboy »

To capture the Sun and show it live and to get the sharpest contrast live image I use a mono camera. Color cameras just don’t cut it. It would be a nice feature to be able to add color to Sun while live imaging. I’m not talking about post processing where there are plenty of software programs to do that.

Hi Don,

I presume that you are thinking just for display on the screen (ie any saved images/videos will not have their colour changed). Is this just a mono camera thing, or does it make sense for a colour camera?

cheers,

Hi Robin,

It would be just for display purposes using only a mono camera.

Hi Robin,

Thanks for adding the colorizing feature. If I may I'd like to make a suggestion that you implement colorization in a different way. If you could provide 4 controls for us to adjust and have them applied after the display histogram adjustment.
1-Saturation
2-Red
3-Green
4-Blue

Most of the solar imaging is done in Ha and we use the display histogram to increase contrast. Here are four images to show what we capture in mono and what the current colorization when applied looks like.

1.- Image is Ha without any display histogram being applied.

2.- Image after display histogram stretch applied.

Coloriztion to 1st image

colorization to 2nd image

Calcium filters are also used and the colorizing would be purple.

To summarize it would work best for us to be apply apply color after all the mono adjustments are made with the ability for us to adjust saturation and red, green & blue.

Hi Don,

unfortunately the way that the code is set up means that the display effects run before the histogram adjustments. While it's obviously possible to do things the other way around, it goes from being not too much effort to being quite a big chunk of effort, so that it's unlikely that I will be able to change that at the moment.

Also, your images seem to have gone missing somehow, so I am struggling to follow exactly what you are aiming at.

cheers,

Hmm, gotcha - the real thing is to stretch the image before applying the color (one way or another).

I will have a think to see how this might be done.

cheers,

I'm also interested in the colorized feature. I can't find the option in Sharpcap however.
