Question about built in wedges on ALT-AZ mounts

#1

Post by Buckrogers »

Hey Guys,

I have a Nexstar 4se with builtin wedge. Will this work with sharp cap polar alignment because I don't have any adjusting knobs, just the latitude scale which I set to my latitude. So my process would be:

CPWI Star Sense Auto align with Wedge enabled (OTA point south, fork pointing north)
Go through the sharpcap polar alignment and hope it works :)

Buck

See the 4SE manual pages 32/33 for some instructions. You are looking for EQ Align North (or South) in the Nexstar handset.

Hi,

difficult to find any close up pictures of that tripod/wedge online, so not 100% sure. In theory you can polar align using SharpCap by moving the latitude adjustment and twisting the whole tripod when you need to go east/west, but it's going to be pretty difficult to get good results just due to the crude nature of the adjustments.

cheers,

Robin

Hi,

Kind of figured that, guess I'll use ASPA or go through the HC for Star Sense. Thanks for checking.

I have found ASPA (All Star Polar Align) is worth doing. I always use it with my AVX equatorial mount.
