Do I need to use live video to take lunar images with my canon eos dslr?

Hi guys,

Newbie here!

I'm trying to image planets with my setup as follows:
  • Celestron NexStar Evolution 9.25" SCT on an ALT/AZ Mount
  • ZWO EAF-5V Focuser, Celestron Focus Motor
  • Celestron StarSense, Canon EOS 7D, Orion SSAG
  • HyperStar V4, Celestron F/6.3 Focal Reducer, Orion TOAG, Orion Deluxe Mini 50mm Guide Scope with Helical Focuser
  • Alpine Astronomical Baader Hyperion 8-24mm Mark IV Zoom Eyepiece
  • Celestron CN-16 GPS
  • Celestron Wedge
  • Optolong L-PRO EOS-C H Alpha 7nm Filter
  • ASTAP, CPWI, PHD2, NINA, APT, SharpCap Pro, INTEL NUC, Dell Laptop
I want to use SharpCap Pro to shoot Live Video of the Moon and use AutoStakkert! to stack the video and process it.Pro
Can SharpCap Pro Perform this function?

Thanks guys,

Hi Reif,

what I can't see in your equipment list is a camera that is really suitable for capturing video of the moon/planets for stacking. Maybe the 7D can capture high resolution, high speed video, but SharpCap cannot control it for that purpose. The SSAG is not really suitable either. Something like a ZWO USB3 camera would be suitable (choose size of sensor, pixel size, etc to match your budget and setup).

If you have (or get) a camera like that then you can definitely use SharpCap to do the capturing of a lunar video into SER format before processing in AutoStakkert - in fact no need for a SharpCap Pro license to use that sort of basic functionality (although we'd obviously love you to buy a Pro license to access the more advance functionality like live flat frame correction or autofocus...)

cheers,

Robin

Thank you Robin!

I am saving up for a real astro camera.

Once I get it, I'll try again.

Thanks again,

Reif
