ASTAP as plate solver?

#1

Post by Moonstruck »

Hello, I am interested in using ASTAP as a plate solver while using Sharpcap. Is that possible? If so, can you please let me know how to connect to it, and if there are any data fields I need to populate, or other things to I need adjust in Sharpcap? Note - I am using EQMOD and Stellarium, if that helps in your response. I have already downloaded ASTAP and its associated image library. Thanks!

Hi,

if you have installed Astap and the star database for it then all you need to do is go to the plate solving settings and tell SharpCap to use it. Make sure you have the latest SharpCap 4.0 for best support. See https://docs.sharpcap.co.uk/4.0/#Select ... g%20Engine

You do not need to configure anything for Astap, but you *can*, optionally, set the focal length of your telescope in the plate solving settings (include adjustments for reducers, etc). If this is entered correctly, plate solving should be faster. If it is entered incorrectly then plate solving will probably not work...

cheers,
