Hello!
I am new to Astrophotography
I don’t have a dedicated camera, only a DSLR, but I’d like to use SharpCap for polar alignment
I’ve read that it support almost all webcams.
Can you tell me with specifications I have to look for before buying a new webcam?
Thank you!
Cristiano

Re: Supported webcams
Hi,
Most WebCams are unsuitable for polar alignment as they are typically unable to take exposures longer than about 1/15 of a second. Polar alignment typically requires an exposure of about two seconds to work correctly. You also have to disassemble the WebCam and mount it in a 1.25 inch eyepiece barrel , which risks damage to your webcam.
I'd strongly suggest buying a supported guiding camera instead – it will make the whole thing a lot less stressful!
Cheers, Robin
