field of view needed for polar alignment

#1

Post by jeruss »

Would like to use main scope and camera for polar alignment function in sharpcap (do not have autoguiding). I read in an older post that I would need .5 degree field of view in either direction. Does this mean .5 degrees for the shorter dimension of the camera chip?

Hi,

Yes, 0.5° for the shorter direction is pretty much the minimum requirement – better if you can manage 1° for the shorter direction, but in most cases 0.5° will do.

Cheers, Robin

It often works with only 0.4° too...It is almost always sufficient...for me ;)
