Smart Histogram and ROI

#1

Post by Monika »

Hello,

When using the Smart Histogram to determine camera settings for a DSO, should you use the ROI box? If yes, where should I put the ROI box? I cannot see the DSO on my screen until it has been stacked, so not sure where the ROI box should go.

Thanks very much!

Hi,

if you use the latest (4.0) version of SharpCap then there is no need to worry about this - when SharpCap is measuring the sky brightness it automatically divides the image up into about 200 boxes and then uses the information from the box with the least light - that means it automatically picks the darkest part of the image.

With 3.2, you should set up the ROI and move it to a dark corner of the image - use the display histogram stretch if you need to in order to pull the screen brightness up.

cheers,

Robin

Okay, I have version 4.0 so will not worry about the ROI box. Thanks for clarifying!
