I want to create a master flat, however I don't understand whether I should use the monochrome option with my color ASI294 camera. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to capturing the flat as a monochrome?
Much thanks,
Joe

Re: should I use monochrome when making a master flat?
Hi Joe,
usually I'd recommend using the monochrome flat option – keeping the colour information in the flat frame does have the advantage of white balancing the final image automatically but can cause problems because the differences in brightness between the red/green and blue channels in the flat are so large. It just seems that things run a lot more smoothly if you stick with the monochrome flat option.
Cheers, Robin
