Polemaster or Sharcap Pro Polar Alignment

#1

Post by sandconp »

I would like to attempt to use the Sharpcap Pro Polar alignment instead of purchasing a Polemaster for my equatorial mount. I do not have a guiding scope and my camera is a ZWO ASI 183MC that I use for imaging with a Hyperstar f/1.9 Focal Ratio which brings my focal length down to 390MM on my 8 inch OTA.

Could I get by using my image camera to perform a Sharcap Pro Polar Alignment without a guiding scope? I plan to take 60 second subs and don’t think I will need to guide unless I do longer subs.

I use my main APM 130/780 LZOS scope at the native f6 780mm and f4.5 585mm focal length with reducer to polar align with SharpCap and have never had an issue with alignment this was using my ASI1600MM-PRO and it works fine and I can easily get SharpCap within 2 seconds accuracy so would not think you would have an issue as at the shorter focal length with the smaller sensor you are going to see a similar amount of sky

Astronomy tools gives the FOV as 1.94 x 1.29 degrees. It should be fine.
